  1. Didn’t God replace the Israel of the old covenant with the Church of the new covenant? I was taught that he did.

Isn’t it that if one will live for God as God intends, he will live for God under the new covenant, whether or not he is Jewish or something else?

  2. This sure would have been a good one for Adolf Hitler to have had written over his office door:

    Jer 31:35,36.
    Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar;

    The Lord of hosts is his name;
If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

  3. Dr. Brown, isn’t there any difference at all between having a people under an old covenant and having a people under a new covenant no matter what their race, color, or creed had been?

I encourage you to reread what I have written.

I believe God has replaced Israel under the old covenant with the Church under the new covenant, meaning that if a people will live for God as God commands, they will be living for him under the new covenant whether or not they are Jewish or something else. I believe God did this by his ordinance and power through the obedience of Jesus Christ, ratified by his shed blood.

If anything you’ve written in a book is contrary to that, I concider I shouldn’t waste my time or money on it.

  4. Ray, the book reiterates and confirms what the bible says regarding Israel and the church and that the church did not replace Israel. So you don’t have to buy any books since this is in the bible but it is clear that your missing it and the book will assist you in understanding what is written in the bible regarding this point and where it is writen in the bible for reference. Bless you.

  5. I readily confess that I’m not an expert on Israeli-Palestinian conflict but I do know a couple of things —

    1) Israel has most of the power.
    2) Israel does most of the killing.

So, I always get cognitive dissonance when Dr. Brown brings on Israel apologists who are pleasant and seem reasonable but don’t acknowledge what everybody with Google knows.

I don’t expect him to bring on a Palestinian apologist, either. But how about: an expert who readily acknowledges that there are victims and victimizers on BOTH side of this conflict and can give us a factual, non-partisan understanding of why this conflict has gone on for decades with no apparent resolution.

  6. Ray,

    >>Didn’t God replace the Israel of the old covenant with the Church of the new covenant? I was taught that he did.

It is the “replace” that bothers people. Especially if you are Jewish! Who wants to be replaced?

I, myself, like the “grafted” language for the church’s relationship to the Jews. We are joined with them, not replacing them. It is so much less oppositional.

This discussion about supersessionism has inspired me to do a bible study comparing the books written before 70AD and those written after to see if there is a shift in the imagery regarding Israel and the church.

It is easy to imagine that the early church had to re-think this whole issue with the destruction of the temple.

What is the truth about Israel?

    by Susan Michael
Support for Israel runs deep in the United States for a number of reasons. According to recent polls as many as 80 percent of American Christians feel a moral obligation to support Israel. A large part of this is due to the influence of the Bible but there is also an appreciation for Israel’s democratic values as well as empathy with Israel since the same terrorist organizations that want to destroy the Jewish state have also attacked America.
Another value that runs deep in American society is truthfulness, therefore dishonesty is frowned upon. For this reason many Americans are quite gullible and simply believe what they are told because of the assumption that they are being told the truth.
This may have been the case in years gone by but today the world is quickly changing. While America has been known for Christian values such as honesty and morality these qualities are coming under attack. The change is happening so rapidly that it has caught many off guard.
    Anti-Semitic Propaganda
This can be seen especially in regards to the Israel issue. The global propaganda campaign to delegitimize and demonize Israel that is prevalent in the Muslim world and in post-Christian Europe is now finding its way here and can be found on American college campuses, in social media and in liberal institutions.
A young Israeli man, Hen Mazzig, came to the Pacific Northwest for four months this year to speak on college campuses, high schools and churches. He spoke about the history of modern Israel, his experience growing up there and his service as an officer in the IDF COGAT unit that assists and promotes Palestinian civil society.
After speaking to over 16,000 people at many institutions he wrote an article describing his complete shock at the “gut-wrenching, anti-Israel, anti-Semitic hostility expressed by many students, professors, church members and even high school students.” He concluded “I never expected to encounter such hatred and lies. I never believed that such anti-Semitism still existed, especially in the U.S.”
The danger is not just that America’s support for Israel will be eroded due to this campaign but that our belief in the Bible – the foundation of Israel’s significance and America’s greatness – will also be diminished. For this reason it is very important that young people know where to find the facts and information necessary to arrive at the truth and to give an answer in defense of the truth.

There is no credible evidence that you can post. Either you are anti semitic, or gullible. You can still sign up for a trip to Israel with Michael Brown- This would be a good experience for you.

  10. Ex 19:5,6
Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

There is a covenant, a people, and a purpose.

    Rev 1:6
And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father.

This was written to the 7 churches in Asia, under a new covenant, and also has a purpose.

    Rev 5:9,10
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.
And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Here again we see the term kings and priests, but here they are not only of one nation or kindred.

There was a people under an old covenant with a calling and a purpose, and they were to reign as kings and priests, being a peculiar, or special people, different from the rest of the people on the earth.

Those people have lived their lives on this earth and have died, but God provided a new covenant and called unto himself a new people to be unto him kings and priests, to bring as many as will come into the new covenant, that his purposes may come to pass on this earth through his people.

These people living under the new covenant, have taken the place in a sense, of the people who were God’s chosen under the old covenant.

And I suppose that’s about all I should say about that.

  11. I cliked on the site posted on Greg’s post # 6 which seemed to me to read like a score sheet, and as I did, it seemed to me that peace should be an easy deal, simply show the score sheet, and then tell them that if they will leave them alone, we won’t have to be doing all that killing.

So, is it Palistinians who love to kill that are really the ones causing all the Palistinian deaths we see or not?

It seems to me that they are the problem, unless Israel isn’t willing to stop killing if the other side does.

  12. Should people really be so offended if someone else comes to take their place in the work of God?

Maybe we should be the kind of people who out of their last breath, pray to God, saying, “God, please raise up someone else to take my place.”

  13. I wonder if the real problem is that we tend to see ourselves as a part of a people or a people group rather than see ourselves as a part of the body of Christ. Maybe that’s the real problem.

Maybe we haven’t really come to the gospel yet.

  14. And, yes I know, the other side of it is that we don’t want to do anything that might hinder another from coming to Christ.

  15. Ray,

Consider for a moment that the “New Covenant” is to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. That is all. It is only spoken of in Jeremiah and in Hebrews…Hebrews hmmmm? Not the book of Galatians or Romans. So the only people that the “New Covnenat” is promised to is the two houses of Israel.

Consider again that Paul speaks to the Romans and the Ephesians and talks about the “Covenants of Promise” (plural) belonging to Israel and that we are no longer gentiles but grafted into Israel. He says in Romans that the gifts and callings that YHWH has imparted are without repentance…they cannot be taken away and given to someone else. It was the same for Esau. Isaac said that he could not undo the blessings and promises that Jacob received. Jacob is Israel.

We are offered the ability to be partakers with the saints. The saints are the people that YHWH has set apart…Israel. Israel has a responsibility and is gifted and blessed to accomplish what YHWH has intended…the light of the world and salt of the earth. YHWH cannot go back on His word, but He wants to include everybody. So He makes it possible for us to be a part of Israel through Messiah. He allows us to partake of the the covenants of promise by grafting us into Israel.

There are many of Israel that are not Israel. They have been broken off of the olive tree. YHWH will break us off too if we get prideful and rebel against Him. He will graft the native olive branches back into their own olive tree if they do not remain in unbelief.

The bride of Messiah is the select group of grafted in and home born Israelites that will rule and reign with Messiah for a thousand years. There will be many that will be quite surprised that they are not part of Messiah’s bride though they thought that they called themselves “Christians.” The kingdom of heaven has many tares planted among the wheat.

Paul was an Israelite and Messianic believer and he still said that he pressed on toward the mark for the prize of the high calling in Messiah that he might attain to the first resurrection consisting of those that rule with Messiah.

The body of Messiah does not replace Israel in any way. In the end those that really are part of the body of Messiah will rule with Him over Israel and the nations of the world. We cannot rule with Messiah unless we are of Israel. Messiah calls both the home born and the grafted in members of Israel to the high calling.

    Shalom

  16. That should have been: “There will be many that will be quite surprised that they are not part of Messiah’s bride though they called themselves “Christians.”

  17. Bo, consider that there are two major covenants of God, the old and the new, though there are other covenants God made which are included in
    both.

  18. Bo, Consider that there will be many who will be caught by surprise who find out that many who they thought could not be a part of the Bride of Christ, are, and that all that are of the Bride of Christ are the members of his Body.

  19. Bo,

This is written to the churches of Galatia and to the brethren which were with Paul (see Gal 1:2)

    Gal 4:24
    Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants;

Some of those in the Church are Gentiles who came to faith in Christ.

  20. Ray,

Where does it say that the New Covenant is to the gentiles? Where does it say that Israel or the Jews are to grafted into the gentiles? If Messiah inherits the gentiles, does that mean that He becomes one? Does it mean that they become His? If they are going to be His, to what nation do they belong? Messiah is an Israelite.

  21. Ray,

In times past gentiles means…no longer gentiles. No more strangers and foreigners means…no longer of another nation. Grafted in means…not on the gentile olive tree anymore.

Eph 2:11 Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands…
    19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

Ro 11:24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert graffed contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be graffed into their own olive tree?

  22. Bo, the Bible speaks of Gentiles being received into the Body of Christ. This does not mean that Jesus becomes a Gentile. Neither does it mean that these saved Gentile believers become Jews, though they belong to him (Jesus) who will become known as the God of the whole earth. (Is 54:5)

I visited some old motorcycle sites because as a motorcyclist who grew up at a special time, a unique era, when something became known as superbikes, I had the priviledge of riding some of these.

These were not the fastest nor were they the best handling bikes that were ever produced, but being the first of an era, they have a special place in the heart of may enthusiasts.

Some of you might want to put 1976 KZ900 Motorcycle Review- Ultimate Motorcycling in your search engine.

I read that review and it really took me back to my first few rides on one that my friend had. He wanted me to take it through it’s performance paces.

And now I wonder if there’s a special place in God’s heart for his first people.

Israel will always be the first.

  23. Ray,

There is no place that the Bible speaks of gentiles being grafted into the body of Messiah. Messiah is not marrying a gentile bride either. Israel is never to have a foreigners as rulers.

I never said gentiles are to become Jews. YHWH has more than a special place in His heart for Israel. It is not about sentimentality. He called them to be His light to the world and his callings and gifts cannot be undone.

    Romans 11
28…but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers’ sakes.
29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

And for the record I liked my 1978 Yamaha RD 400 better than the KZ 900 🙂 Fastest street bike off the line and stopping. I always was a little intense.

  24. Bo, was that the last year of the 400 Yam? I did have the priveledge of taking a test ride of a RD 350 back in the 70’s.

  25. Ray,

I also had a used 1979 RD 400 Daytona special. I think that they went to a water-cooled RZ 350 shortly after.

Only and Israelite can rule in Israel. Messiah is the King of Israel. One must be grafted into Israel to rule and reign with Messiah. No gentile can remain a gentile and be part of the ruling body of Messiah and He would never marry a foreign bride.

  26. Will the members of the Body of Christ ever do anything Jesus would not do as long as they are under his complete authority and rule?

  27. I Cor 12:13
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.

  28. I wonder if the two olive trees of Rev 11:4 is the body of Christ which is made up of both Jew and Gentile believers.

  29. If the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob said through His prophets that for Him woman Israel will be again His wife, can SHE meet Him in the same uncircumcised condition?
According to Thora a woman cannot re-marry if her first ex-husband is still alive.
SO shema Israel: Who is your first husband Who died? Now you know also Who is coming back again, not for the first time.
