  1. Sheila,

I don’t think the reason for referencing a trinitarian website is always to show support for its cause. I think Malachi just wanted to reference a doctrine considered heresy even by trinitarians…

“Trinitarian of sorts” is an expression which reflects the state of affairs quite accurately. Trinitarian variants are legion…

  2. Some questions to consider:

    1. If God is triune, Is Jesus triune also?
    2. Is the holy spirit triune?

If Jesus is all about himself as he is supposed to be before God, as well as all about God the Father as he really is, and he is all about the Spirit of God as well, doesn’t that make him a triune being?

  3. It seems to me that some might say that one might have whiskey and Cheetoes for breakfast, or even green eggs and ham, and still be one, but one mustn’t and dares’nt be triune about things at any time.

Sometimes people wish to grind a legalistic ax in some kind of legal way and though they use what they call essentials, if essentials are not used safely, they might hurt themselves by it.

  4. Moshe, yes indeed.

It is preposterous to argue from echad and can you imagine doing this with a PH D?

Everyone knows that Jesus and his world were unitarians.

    It is a battle.

I use this: There is utmost confusion among students of the Bible about who God is!

Some say he is three persons, some two,
and others maintain that he is strictly One Person.

Apart from the massive power of tradition, which trends to grip the minds of people, the problem could be solved in a few moments. Here is the solution. Jesus is our authority. Which God did he serve? Fair Question? The answer is simple and clear and is found in Mark’s Gospel account, chapter twelve.

In verse 29 Jesus answered the question of a scribe (a theologian) by quoting the great foundational text of Israel. The nation was instructed about the true God:

Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, is one Lord.

Who is “the Lord our God”? No question: ONE LORD.

Now ONE LORD is ONE person, not two, not three!

We can prove that this is so.

Note first that the theologian, who was commended for his intelligence by Jesus (v.34), affirmed what Jesus had said:

You are right in saying that God is one and there is no other but him.

How many persons is God? Obviously one, not two, not three.

Secondly note that in verse 36 the discussion is about TWO LORDS, one of whom is God and the other is the Messiah Jesus:

The Lord said to my lord: “Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.”

But remember. How many Lords make up the One God? “The Lord our God is ONE LORD” (Mk 12:29).

It is perfectly clear that God is One Lord. But in verse 36 there are two Lords. Only one of these can be God, because God is One Lord (v. 29). That’s what Jesus said. The second “Lord” cannot be “God,” therefore. Rather, he is the Messiah (Christ), the “Lord Messiah.”

It is surprising that there should be any doubt about the Christian creed. Jesus said plainly: “The Lord our God is One Lord”—not two or three as some believe.

It is time for believers to agree with Jesus about the most important question of all: Who God is.

  5. When we see Jesus we will know that God and Jesus together, that is one Lord.

The Father and Son together are one Lord, and this does not in any way contradict scripture.

  6. Professor Anthony Buzzard,

If even orthodox Judaism that prays the שמע
three times a day, even 4 times, the 4th just before going to bed, I did 4 times a day…

And if orthodox Judaism teaches the Mekubalim in the Zohar that ,,השם
has three heads, that are אחד
as one head, then do you not think yourself, a non orthodox Jew could see in light of this, a real possibility, or are you closed completely in your world view towards YHWH אלהים, here is the Aramaic Zohar description of ,אלהים יהוה.

In the original Aramaic of the Zohar.

האי עתיקא קדישא אשתכח בתלת רישין
וכליל בחד רישא וההוא הוא רישא עלאה לעילא לעילא
    ובנין דעתיקא קדישא אתרשים בתלת
