Great programme today. Looking forward to part 2. Your guest was fascinating. I am in AoG church in the UK so am used to everyone preaching.
Thank you so much for having Dr. Dowdy on the program. How would she recommend that women handle situations where the men in leadership do not agree with having women leaders? How does a woman remain submissive but also follow God’s callings and giftings when those in authority seem threatened by that and sincerely do not believe the Bible leaves room for it? How does a woman deal with the feelings of being passed over, boxed in, or dismissed without becoming despairing or bitter–especially after seeing the same issues for decades?
C, Can men object solely based on the Bible? Do they have to also “seem threatened?”
I came here for biblical answers to this issue but am very disappointed. Where is the information that can convince someone who is in love with God and at the same time sees the bible teaching that women should not be in church leadership to change their view on this issue?
“In the Bible you don’t see the word ‘pastor.’ But you do have those that were ‘patrons’. Lidea was a ‘patron’ which meant the leader of a house group.”
That is so horribly wrong. The Patron was over the place, not the group. I could open my home for the pastor to come and teach. I would be the patron, not the pastor.
Her response to Timothy was that women didn’t go to school. Paul didn’t say “because they were not educated.” Paul went to the fall of man and referenced Eve’s deception as the reason.
I’m trying to see it. I’m trying to agree with Dr. Dowdy’s points and Dr. Brown’s support of this doctrine of women in leadership because I think highly of Dr. Brown, but I don’t think the arguments are comprehensive or exclusive.
They are not comprehensive in that scripture says women should neither have authority over men or teach them spiritual truth and it ties that back to the order in creation. So, even if you might agree with Dr. Dowdy’s explanation of how Paul expected that one day women would be knowledgable enough to teach a man spiritual truth, that is not the same as saying she should have spiritual authority over men, which as pastor she would, indeed, have.
The numbers argument does not work because you can apply it to whatever religion you want and it works. There are huge mosques, Mormon tabernacles, Hindu temples and the like. Does that validate what these groups teach? The massive growth of this church is no exclusive proof that God cannot simply choose to take someone’s disobedience and use it to accomplish His good purposes.
They are talking about women in church leadership roles, but there isn’t enough time to dig deeply into the one text that really screams against it? How does that make sense?
I want to see it, but I don’t think these are good arguments.
Isa 3:12 As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths.
Can it be a good thing when the leaders of congregations are so young or cater to the youth culture? Can it be a good thing that the creation order is undermined by women being rulers? What path are we now on?
