  1. Okay, but my Bible mentions Palestine.

Images for ancient Palestine are included here:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=where+was+ancient+palestine&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=rY1zUNHCM6S6yQG5m4GIBA&ved=0CCgQsAQ&biw=933&bih=407

I’m just trying to understand…I don’t DOUBT what the caller said as to Israel’s claim to the land one bit — it’s scriptural, certainly! — it’s just a little confusing in terms of the name, “Palestine”…..

I would appreciate some light on it.

    TY

  2. Sorry about the “my Bible” expression in my prior post — I remember Dr. Brown mentioned that he wishes people wouldn’t use that expression — because, afterall, we’re all reading the same Bible! It’s not like some of us are reading the phone book! LOL. It wasn’t intentional, just an off-the-cuff expression, and I can’t edit it, so sorry about that…… ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. The so-called Palestinians don’t even call themselves that in the Arabic, but call themselves al philasแนญini – the Philistines.

  4. Ruth,

The images you link to are simply a contemporary way of projecting “Palestine” back into ancient times. There’s not a true historian in the world that disputes that the name arose in the 2nd century AD as the country/territory was renamed by the Roman emperor.

  5. @Dr. Brown,

regarding the Torah observant caller who rang to differ with you. It really grieves me when you use Atheistic tactics to deal with those callers. Yes, I understand you did NOT ask for pro-Torah people to call in and differ with you, you were asking for questions, not for those who differ, but is it necessary to use Atheistic tactics?

Instead of having a rational discussion, Atheists (like Richard Dawkins) will seek out verses that cause an emotional response of disgust, outrage and repulsion to shut down discussion and win by default in public debates.

Oh really? You believe a loving kind God told the Israelites to kill women, children and animals?

If you say yes, the crowd boos.

Why? Because there is a worldview in the west that everyone should be free to live their own lives, so the idea that God could mandate the capital punishment of adulterers and sodomites horrifies westerners. That’s why it’s not fair to ask that question.

  6. @Dr. Brown, I just looked up Haggai 2; Malachi 3; Daniel 9 after you mentioned them.

I agree that Haggai 2 is very clearly talking about the second temple as it says ‘this’ temple, however the context of Malachi 3 is clearly the second coming.

    Behold, He is coming,โ€
    Says the LORD of hosts.
โ€œBut who can endure the day of His coming?
And who can stand when He appears?…
    I will come near you for judgment;
I will be a swift witness
    Against sorcerers,
    Against adulterers,
    Against perjurers,
Against those who exploit wage earners and widows and orphans,
And against those who turn away an alien โ€”
Because they do not fear Me,โ€
    Says the LORD of hosts.
    โ€œFor I am the LORD, I do not change;
Therefore you are not consumed, O sons of Jacob.

So I would say it’s talking about Yeshua coming to HIS temple that the Jews are praying to him from between the porch and the altar to deliver them from the hellish rape of Jerusalem while repenting and proclaiming him as Lord.

Later Yeshua will establish Ezekiel’s temple…

He will purify the sons of Levi,
And purge them as gold and silver,
That they may offer to the LORD
    An offering in righteousness.
โ€œThen the offering of Judah and Jerusalem
Will be pleasant to the LORD,
As in the days of old,
    As in former years.

The context is AFTER the second coming (the day of the Lord).

  7. Can’t believe you are here! You have helped turn our family around. We have been lost in OJ for 10+years; trying to get out since you challenged us. THANK YOU SO MUCH for what you do! May Hashem continue to bless you and protect you while you are here. G-d willing we will be able to thank you in person. We live in ื™ืจื•ืฉืœื

  8. Back in the eighties,a group of leaders came to David, for their congregations were not reading Holy Scripture ; to cut a long story short,he did a book-by-book,broad-brush overview series on the entire Bible in order to encourage them to get into Holy Scripture (which is now in book form titled ‘Unlocking the Bible’) ; he now regards this overview as his ‘legacy’ to the Body.

Yes,there may be many so-called in-depth ‘scholarly’ works on the Bible (which are often written by sincere but subjective and deceived folk),but when it comes to equipping mom ‘n’ pop disciples with a no-nonsense understanding of the boneworkk of Holy Scripture,it is,as far as I know, unmatched.

The Torah book talks are really nutritious stuff ; David was dreading giving a talk on Leviticus ; but,it so happens that that talk is one of the most interesting and informative of them all.

Here is the 2-part audio, roughly 40mins each ; can be watched free online,or downloaded on MP3. David discusses the Feasts, and also shows how the First and Second Covenant tie in together, like shoelaces.

    First 40 mins

    Second

(Michael,David was in Israel last week ; every year he goes to the Feast of Tabernacles,to give talks ; when he travels there he feels he is ‘going home.’ Consider that shoelace talk as a candidate for listening on the plane home next week.)

  9. David,

Thanks for your post, but obviously I differ. First, Malachi 3 is pointing to the Temple that existed in that day — the Second Temple; second, Mark and Matthew explicitly cite the passage with reference to John the Immerser and Yeshua, and it is exactly what Yeshua did during His time of ministry on earth.

  10. @Dr. Brown,

Just as there are two fulfilments of:

    ื”ื ื” ืื ื›ื™ ืฉืœื— ืœื›ื ืืช ืืœื™ื” ื”ื ื‘ื™ื ืœืคื ื™ ื‘ื•ื ื™ื•ื ื”ืณ ื”ื’ื“ื•ืœ ื•ื”ื ื•ืจื”.

A partial fulfilment with Yoแธฅanan, and the full and final fulfilment with the actual Eliyah before the second coming, so too with the Malachi 3. You talk about this often, so you should fully appreciate it.

    It’s not a case of either/or, but both/and.

There is much in Malachi 3 yet to be fully accomplished, such as Yeshua setting up the temple for offerings by the sons of Levi, but he will do that in Ezekiel’s temple as the prince/priest who eats the showbread in the holy place.

There’s far too much detail for Ezekiel’s temple for it just to be spiritualised away.

  11. @Dr. Brown,

Again, I want to commend you for all you’ve done answering Jewish objections to Yeshua. You’ve set a benchmark and left a legacy which will continue to reach many for years to come. I’m saying this, because I don’t want my words about Ezekiel’s temple to be taken without that context. I greatly appreciate all the good that you’ve done.

  12. Thanks for shedding light on my question, Dr. Brown. ๐Ÿ™‚

I kept reading online in politically-charged blogs that the name “Palestine” did not exist in any ancient texts, and that was confusing me.
