The Slippery Slope Continues and Is the Republican Party the Party of God?

[Download MP3]

Dr. Brown looks at more disturbing evidence of the slippery slope in our society today and then compares the platform of the Democrats, who have been called godless, with the platform of the Republicans, asking if this makes them the Party of God. Hour 1:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: There is a strong three-fold cord; Pro Israel, Pro Life, Pro Family Values. To me it’s because all three are biblically based.

Hour 2:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: Visiting the Billy Graham Library this morning, I was reminded again of the power of the Gospel. I was reminded again of what God can do through a yielded life. I was reminded again that we must exalt the Word and King Jesus.

  1. Daniel, while the republican party is certainly not a paragon of Godliness it is currently the only party in the united states that stands for religious freedom, which is why a person Like Dr. Brown can have a show like the Line of Fire.

  2. No present, earthly government can possibly be “the party of God”. Since we await a much better, righteous government “from above”…the Kingdom of God.

For the time being we are said to be “temporary residents and foreigners…who reside as aliens” [1Pe 2.11; 1Pe 1.1] Just like those who came before us:

All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. Heb 11.13

  3. I think the question itself unintentionally provokes unfair criticism of the GOP because certainly no human political party or government at this age can qualify for such a divine status (party of God).
However we should not ridicule resent nor be too judgmental on the one who is striving in the right direction .
The GOP is unfairly accused of racism, slavery, anti-poor, anti-black ,corporate greed and as the party for the millionaires.
There is corporate greed and are millionaires in both parties nevertheless the GOP stands out as the party that fought against slavery and segregation. They fought for civil rights for the Black people and not like the Democrats who formed the KKK. About 90% of the black population are bamboozled to believe the opposite and thereby hating and mistrusting the GOP for something they did not do.
Today the GOP must be commended for their persistent stand for SANCTITY OF LIFE, TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE, RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, ETC.

  7. Hi Dr. Brown,

I wanted to first say it was a pleasure to join in prayer with the One New Man team yesterday. I think you know I’m all about helping to forge that awakening where I can. The last fellow to speak mentioned having another conference call and I hope you let us know when it is because I’d like to invite others to listen in.

I also want to apologize to you for some harsh words and overall poor attitude some months back. I’m sorry, too, that it’s been this late in coming. There’s no good excuse for my behavior and I’m sorry for it. I pray that you’ll be kind enough to forgive me. I got arrogant and was talking stupid for way too long. I get sadly out of sorts when I’m under too much stress. Ashton, my sister’s son, is doing so much better; I Praise and Thank God so much for his improvement! My tether was getting way to far out there alone. Thank God the Lord’s pulled me back in!

I truly hope you’ll forgive me, Dr. Brown. You’re a brother I really admire and trust to preach the word faithfully and sincerely. It stirs my heart, and many others I’m sure! I’ve got to be more diligent as I can sense my enemies turning up the heat.

Thanks for staying strong and lifting us up as you do!

  8. Anyone else feeling disquieted?

Wow, that’s a very disturbing article on Townhall! Honestly, until I read Dr. B’s book, “A Queer Thing..” I had no idea the facts of the matter. And just look how far the 60’s “love the one you’re with” revolution had taken us now. It’s disconcerting to think that morality has no voice of clarity these days. I can’t believe our Constitution was penned with the intention of one day having it be amended to allow perversion in while write morality out. While we’re still a majority protesting these sorts of cases, we need to speak up.

In order to silence their critics the twins and Savage desperately need to convince others that no sexual relationship should be considered perverted if it’s given the “love” seal of approval. That’s not healthy and God only knows where that vein of thinking will lead. I pray someone will guide them to the truth. I wonder if those in Noah’s day used that argument right up until the flood waters silenced them forever. God gave us each free will to choose our lifestyles and the path we take is our own choice. When Jesus said, “Take up your cross…” one possible reading is that we each have to strive against that one weakness that’s particular to us. We all know what it is. Of course to say that someone, anyone, should resist a sexual attraction of any sort will get you bombasted as a bigot or worse these days. Where are the thinking people in the GLBT community?

Siblings should love each other, of course (“naturally” they should), but what’s going on between the two who are brothers is nothing more than lusting after sexual gratification with whomever you desire it and it’s deplorable that they can find people with a platform acting as mouthpieces, let alone “lawyers,” trying to make it sound like it’s normal and OK and we should all sing a song of love for them. We are moral creatures who know which behaviors cross the line between what’s natural and what’s not. Who are these people defending such behaviors? They want us to believe it’s natural, normal and perfectly sane (which it’s not) and their goal is to make it “lawful” in the Courts. “It’s the mood of a country’s citizens that dictates the interpretation of it’s laws.” (paraphrased) I heard something to that effect spoken by Justice Scalia during an interview on ETV I think it was. I’ll try and locate it.

It would do a world of good, though, if the GLBT community would take a moral stand against such relationships. I mean, seriously, what will they say to their own children? We’re sexual creatures, yes, but when brothers don’t have enough willpower to reign in their lust for one another well, we can call it what it is, it’s perverse, and as a society where do we go from here? They need therapy for heaven’s sake – they need the therapy of the unadulterated truth and love of God through the Gospel. I expect Dan Savage to applaud, but where’s the outrage from the 99% of us that don’t agree? Our silence is deafening.

  9. The Republican Party is the American Taliban. The Republicans attempt to stifle science, they deny facts, they reject any new information, they are against any kind of progress, they believe women’s bodies belong to the government, they have an intense fear of unbelief and they are intolerant of unbelievers. Of course the Republicans suffer from xenophobia just as do their Muslim brothers.

“The great irony is that, if they could but see it, Christian and Islamic Fundamentalists are the same people. Their vision of life and how to live it is driven by the same needs and neuroses. What they hate in each other is a projection of what they hate in themselves… It is Literalists who fight wars of religion with Literalists from other traditions, each claiming God is on their side.” – Timothy Freke

  10. Joseph, Ref #6

You said, ” The GOP is unfairly accused of racism, slavery, anti-poor, anti-black ,corporate greed and as the party for the millionaires.”

Actually, sir, the GOP candidates who were running for the presidency has spoken with racial bias out of their own mouths. Did not Rick Santorum make his racist remarks about “bla… people” before he caught what was coming out of his mouth?. For it is from the abundance of the heart that the mouth speaks. Or shall we address Newt Gingrich, who said that urban kids have no desire to work, and suggested jobs such as janitors. What more shall we say about Rick Perry and his famous “N” rock on his property.

Let’s discuss the GOP’s representative candidate, a Mormon, who is running for president. He was asked about the racial suppression that marked the history of that cult organization until 1978. He responded with a comment that he stood by the faith of his fathers. Absolutely not repentance at all.

Unfairly accused of racism, slavery, anti-poor, and anti-black… I think not!

You also said, ” the GOP stands out as the party that fought against slavery and segregation. They fought for civil rights for the Black people and not like the Democrats who formed the KKK.”

What you failed to acknowledge, as did David Barton, in his book American History in Black and White, is the fact that the old Democratic party became the new Republican party 50 years ago. Let not your history conveniently stop at that point if you really want to have honest discussion on this matter.

You also said, ” About 90% of the black population are bamboozled to believe the opposite and thereby hating and mistrusting the GOP for something they did not do.”

What sad words come from your heart in judging just about an entire race of people (90% according to you) with such a degrading statement. Statements such as this only expose the wide gap that still resides in this country.

Finally, you said, ” Today the GOP must be commended for their persistent stand for SANCTITY OF LIFE, TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE, RELIGIOUS FREEDOM, ETC.”

And while we are at it, let’s commend the GOP for their efforts promote voter suppression in many of our states – especially when most have not had one case of documented voter fraud at all. Racism and the GOP, it is quite evident.

  11. Dr. Brown,

I read the article, as it was well stated.

As I ponder, I find myself a bit baffled as to why the blatant, racist words and actions that have come from the Republican party are totally ignored by the Christian leaders. It appears that there is ready talk about abortion, homosexuality, and even support for Israel, but why not a heart’s cry for the clear racial sins that are before us. I am left to wonder that if similar racist comments that I noted in my previous posting were directed towards Jews, would the Christian community be openly outraged?

I am convinced that there are deep-seated, anti-African roots that many have to be delivered from and set free. I am not simply referring to slavery, or Jim Crow, but I believe that there is a blindness that has covered many Christians eyes. This stems all the way back to Numbers 12, where G-d struck Miriam with leprosy, for the very reason that she and Aaron spoke against Moses because he married an Ethiopian woman. Moses never defended himself for that matter, but G-d fought his battle for him. We see a clear picture of how much our LORD hates racism and how He feels about this very thing.

Notwithstanding, John, thus declared that “whoever hates his brother is a murderer,” (1 John 4:15); hence, should not racism be held on an equal platform as abortion? I often hear of how America will be judged for the 50 million babies that have been aborted, but let us not be sleep on the judgments that we are accountable for regarding the past and present acts of racism towards African-American as well.

As I sit here and ponder this great concern that I have with the church, I think of the great Christian philosopher, Francis Schaeffer, who so noted how the silence of the prophetic voice is a detriment to the people of G-d.

  12. Dr. Brown,

I took a look at the link that you suggested, as it identified a variety of opinions. I have no objection to noting the history of the Republican party in standing for African-American rights, and that of the Democratic party who stood in opposition.

However, it should also be acknowledged that those ideologies regarding the African-American drastically changed in the mid-1960’s, thus the Democrats of old became the new Republican party of today.

A prime example to validate this point would be Strom Thurman, who served in the Senate from 1954 to 2003. He began as a Democrat, and changed party affiliation in to Republican in 1964. His reason for switching was because of his opposition of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. There was a major turn that took place during that era, of which still stands to this present day.

What are your thoughts on the video link that I posted?
