Hour 2:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: I bow down before a sovereign God; a God who is King, a God who rules, a God who reigns, a God who is bringing about His work in the earth. We are called to serve Him, and cooperate with Him.

  1. Dr. Brown,

I very much enjoy reading your books and hearing your show when I can. A friend of mine brought up an issue that I’ve been having difficulty with addressing to her, and I thought that with your background as an expert in Hebrew culture you could enlighten us on something. Could you help me explain to my friend what Deut. 22:13-20 is referring to when it makes reference to the “cloth” that proved “virginity”? This account is difficult especially because there doesn’t seem to be an accurate way of proving virginity using a cloth like that to begin with, plus it just seems to put women in a bad light of having to “prove” their purity, whereas men don’t seem to have been required to do anything like that.

Is this most best understood as a concession made by Moses, like with divorce, or is there a better way of looking at this completely?

Thanks so much. I look forward to hearing your program later today. I would call in if I could but unfortunately I have a business meeting scheduled at that time.

    Regards,
    Mark
