Dr. Brown Interviews Mark Mittelberg on Evangelism and Apologetics; and Repent: The First Word of the Gospel

[Download MP3]

Dr. Brown interviews author, evangelist, and apologist Mark Mittelberg; then hear a discussion of the meaning and importance of repentance in coming into relationship with God.

Hour 1:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: There are lots and lots of questions. There are lots of people struggling. There are lots of doubts that arise, but we have answers, for we know the One who is the answer; we have nothing of which to be ashamed. Let us make the message known: boldly, clearly, and joyfully. The world needs what we have!

Hour 2:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: We need to get back to the gospel of the scriptures, the gospel of God. That gospel begins, not in every conversation or situation, but in spirit and in heart, with the message of repentance. And as we turn to God and ask Him for mercy and forgiveness, saying “Save me from my sins,” we receive the free gift of salvation through the blood of Jesus, which enables us to lead a brand new life.

Meet Mark Mittelberg:

Mark Mittelberg is a best-selling author, sought-after speaker, and a leading strategist in evangelism and apologetics-oriented outreach. He is the primary author (with Lee Strobel and Bill Hybels) of the updated Becoming a Contagious Christian Training Course, through which more than a million people have learned to effectively and naturally communicate their faith to others.

Mark’s newest book, The Questions Christians Hope No One Will Ask, is based on a survey of 1000 Christians commissioned through the Barna organization, and deals with the ten issues that believers most want to avoid—but must not! Read more here…

Mark Mittelberg’s Featured Resource: The Reason Why: Faith Makes Sense: Everyone wants to believe in something beyond or someone bigger than themselves, but nobody wants to be duped. In order to provide answers to people who are seeking the truth, Mark Mittelberg updates for today the classic book by Robert Laidlaw that sold millions, The Reason Why. This short book gives clear, concise reasons why belief in God makes sense.

  1. I read the two-in-one book after we attended your worship service at your Church. I fully intend to “rock the boat”!! Thanks for speaking words from the depth of your heart. I caught the fire and am running with it! Wish me luck.

    🙂

  2. Hello,i am just an outsider who reads Holy Scripture, but,i would like to say the following :
Are both sides of ‘the Kingdom Coin’ (so to speak) being presented to outsiders – faith and the free gift of eternal life on the one side, repentance and the towering cost of authentic discipleship on the other ?
Britain (and i believe the USA too) seems to be an epicentre of materialiam and hedonism.
It will take more than a one-sided message,if Westerners are going to lay down their treasure and pleasure seeking lifestyles, take up the cross and the reproach of Christ, set their minds on things above, and live no longer for themselves but for the Lord Jesus Christ who died for them – that’ll take two sides – that’ll take the yardstick of the Lord.
How many evangelists in Britain and America present outsiders with the yardstick of the Lord – Luke 14:25-35 ( His terms and conditons) for being His disciple.
    In Bible mathematics,Disciple = Christian = Disciple (see Acts 11:26 ).
The yardstick of Jesus for being His disciple, has always measured 36 inches.
Alas,in the west, the measure for being His ‘Christian’ (in the eyes of insiders and even outsiders !) seems to have progressively shrunk.
Are Western Evangelists making authentic Disciples on His yardstick-terms,or making complacent Christians on a one minute ‘sinner’s-prayer’ ? Have Western Evangelists made a molehill out of a mountain ?
Is that competent workmanship/fishing ? Is that representing Jesus properly ?
When was the last time you heard an Evangelist sifting responsive outsiders with the Lord’s yardstick ?
Without the disciple-yardstick of Jesus, and without a balanced presentation of salvation,is it any wonder that many Western believers walk pretty much like the Gentiles ? Any wonder at all ?
Revelation 3:4-5 echoes down the centuries – but how many western believers and evangelists have an ear to hear it ?

  3. He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
That there are good arguments for Christianity is not the issue; there are good argumets for all the religions. What is the issue, as G-d told the Jewish people what way to go, to follow and to be with Him, is why try to destroy His people? Also, why in the process are you, though unknowingly, also destroying the credibility of Christianity. In Matthew, 19:16-19,>>> Jesus gives a good answer to all that you gentlemen are saying. From King James; And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? 17;And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?18; He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, 19; Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself 20; The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
<<< Without going into more detail, these items stood out the first time I read these verses; as Jesus gave the 7 Laws of Noah, the young man was a Gentile, so he did not try to teach the Torah as such. He stated that only G-d is "special" as taught in the Torah – I shall have no other G-ds before me, i the L-rd, am G-d; there is no other. Also, Jesus as a practicing Jew, believe that the Torah/the Commandments are what is needed for salvation – in response to the man's question. So Jesus in effect refutes all of your arguments, or he was wrong. Which is it? Also, at the beginning of the Gospels? I noticed in the side bar on the KJV there is a lot of discussion on marriage, and loyalty to one's spouse. Why would G-d have an engage girl get pregnant by Him? Thank you for tis opportunity to communicate some of the issues with your faith.
