  1. We have to remember that the Jews of Christian Medieval Europe were not desiring to be integrated into Christian society. In fact, it was the exact opposite. They knew that the way to preserve themselves, their religion and identity, was to be segregated. They were, essentially, like the Orthodox Jews of today, who self-impose separation.
