  1. “Sin destroys spirituality. It is necessarily so; for where sin is tolerated in the believer’s daily life, the Spirit, who indwells him, must then turn from His blessed ministry through him, to a pleading ministry to him. The Bible does not teach that the Spirit withdraws because of sin in the one whom He indwells: He is rather grieved by the sin.

A child of God lives either with a grieved or an ungrieved Spirit. It may reasonably be questioned, in the light of God’s Word, whether the saved person, having received the Spirit, ever lives by the dictates of his conscience. The standards of human conscience must give way to a standard of moral judgement which is infinitely higher. A Christian’s manner of life either grieves or does not grieve the Holy Spirit of God. The Apostle Paul writes of the fact that his conscience bore him witness in the Holy Spirit, and it is quite probable that the Spirit uses the conscience as a human faculty; but He as certainly imparts to it the new standard of the infinite holiness of God. The injunction to the one in whom the Spirit dwells is, “And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Eph. 4:30).

A true spiritual life must depend then, to a large degree, upon the right understanding and adjustment concerning the issues of sin in the believer’s daily life. About this God has spoken explicitly, and it will be found that the Bible teaching on the subject of the sins of Christians is two-fold: (1) God has provided that the sin of His child may be prevented, and (2) He has also provided that the effect of sin, if it has been committed, may be cured. It is imperative that this two-fold classification of the purpose of God in dealing with sin in His children be recognized.

Having sinned, what must a Christian do? What is the condition for the cure of the havoc of sin in the spirituality of the believer? No attempt should be made here to name sins which hinder the Spirit. He is grieved by any, and all, sin, and He is abundantly able to convince the one in whom He dwells of the particular sin, or sins, which grieve Him. So, also, it is an issue only of known sin; for no person can deal intelligently with unknown sin. This first condition of true spirituality is centered upon definite matters. It is sin that has, by the grieving of the Spirit, become a distinct issue; for the term “grieving the Spirit” refers as much to the heart experience of the one in whom He dwells as to the personal attitude of the Spirit toward sin. The issue is, therefore, a well-defined wrong, about which the child of God has been made conscious by the Spirit. Such known sin must be dealt with according to the exact direction of the Word of God.

Should spiritual darkness be experienced apart from the consciousness of any particular sin having been committed, it is the privilege of the Christian to pray for a clearer understanding.”

  2. Excellent job on this, Dr. Brown, really appreciate the humility with which you approached writing the Hyper Grace book, and the love you have for people, that you want them to know the truth. Thank you so much.

  3. Benjamin,

1Jo 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.
4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.
6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.
7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

1Jo 24 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

    You quoted:
“No attempt should be made here to name sins which hinder the Spirit. He is grieved by any, and all, sin, and He is abundantly able to convince the one in whom He dwells of the particular sin, or sins, which grieve Him. So, also, it is an issue only of known sin; for no person can deal intelligently with unknown sin. This first condition of true spirituality is centered upon definite matters.”

“The Spirit is grieved by any and all, sin…” Combine this with what the NT says sin is and it then becomes obvious that we should keep YHWH’s Torah. Transgression of the law is still sin. When we don’t apply what we know of YHWH’s law to our lives, we become hearers only and deceive ourselves. Most of us do not start by knowing YHWH’s law, but most believers become aware of it as time passes. Thus it becomes a known sin to continue to break YHWH’s law. Our desire to be like Messiah must come to grips with the idea of purifying ourselves even as He is pure and walking as He walked. He kept His Father’s law. We do not want to be found to be liars. YHWH’s law ultimately becomes a definite matter to those who desire to be pure/clean and holy.

Jas 1:21 So then, leave all uncleanness and remains of malice and receive with meekness the word ingested within you, which is able to cause your souls to be saved.
22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Uncleanness/filthiness is still wrong. It is YHWH’s law that defines uncleanness. What we eat matters to our Father, as does when we have marital relations, etc. We can meekly accept His commandments or grieve His Spirit. It leads to deception when we believe those that say that we are not to keep YHWH’s law. It is the original form of false grace. The serpent still says, “Has YHWH said…” which is translated into modern terms by, “It doesn’t really matter anymore.”

There will come a day for all of us when we remain unclean/filthy or Holy. The tree of life is for those that have not continued to grieve the Spirit and thus have become keepers of YHWH’s commandments, for breaking them is still sin.

Re 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.
14 Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Who is it that loves and makes lies?

1Jo 24 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

    Shalom

  4. The Bruce Jenner saga is a manifest warning from Dr. Abram Kardiner ” Those who reinforce the disingrative elements in our society will get no thanks from future generations. The family becomes the ultimate victim of homosexuality a result which any society can tolerate only within certain limits.” – Quoted from MB book A Queer thing happened.

Those limits are manifesting, where is this going to go.

  5. Morning Bo, I agree with you. But I’m having a hard time figuring out if you didn’t agree with your quote from my post, or agreeing and expanding.

  6. I Liked the quote. I just wanted to show how it should be applied further than most even think about. When we reject transgression of YHWH’s law as being sin, we end up grieving the Spirit and deceiving ourselves. The Spirit needs truth to work with in dealing with our hearts. Whatever truth we reject or relegate to someone else or another time becomes an area of deception in our lives that can take years and years and years for the Spirit to be able to bring to our attention. Thus we need the written word and brothers to speak truth to us. My claim is that we have deceived ourselves with the idea that YHWH’s Torah does not apply to us. This puts the Spirit at a disadvantage in convicting us of sin.

    Shalom

  7. I wasn’t sure who Dr. Brown was quoting but I suspect it was the well known teacher/preacher who also insists that the gifts of the Spirit are not for today and I can’t think of his name, but, anyway, Dr. B. quoted him as saying that the Holy Spirit doesn’t convict believers of sin. What of Ananias and his wife then? They lied to the Holy Spirit concerning the earnings from the sale of their land and both were carried out dead! I think that’s a conviction.

  8. Hello Sheila.

I always enjoy seeing when you have posted. Hopefully all has been well with you and your family.

Great example too with Ananias. The Holy Spirit can be grieved and even quenched, and He will let you know when that has happened and plead with God’s child as the Father waits for the sinning child to confess his/her sin. But if the sinning child does not confess while the Father patiently wait for him/her to do so, then the Father has no choice but to act and discipline His child.

  9. Pixar (Disney) is now promototing a new movie called inside out endorsing the trangender lifestyle. This is a new level of brainwashing.

  10. I agree Jon, although I don’t think it’s new that they’re doing it. Hollywood has always been the tool of choice for psychological conditioning. Television programming in general has stooped to new lows in recent years though!

And for Pete’s sake, I wish women had more respect for themselves than to parade around half naked. Beyonce and some others go to the awards ceremony practically naked! They have no more modesty than a street hooker.

  11. Your right, and the quote in the Michael Brown book is correct, The family becomes the ultimate victim of homosexuality a result which any society can tolerate only within certain limits.”
The new Pixar movie is yet another limit where a cartoon character ” come out”. This has not been done before, now a two year old will be introduced to the normalization of abnormal behavior. The introduction of deviance to a child audience. Limits that will destroy society completely.
