How can we tell when a passage of scripture reflected outdated cultural values and is therefore not applicable to today? Hour 2:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: There may be discrepancies, problems that we can’t reconcile here and there in Scripture, but the overall message is very loud and clear.

  1. Question. What is the best answer to give to someone that like the CNN headline today- Science to Carson that he is wrong. How do you answer back to that with out going into the extensive answers in your book? How would you answer that back to CNN if the accused you of ignoring science that we are born that way?

  2. Quick question. I have a brother in Christ that finds most of the Old Testament irrelevant. I want to convey to him that much of the Old Testament still applies to New Testament believers although we are no longer under the Old Covenant. Could you please help me to convey this to him? To give some proper context, the conversation came about in our discussion of Israel. He does not believe that the precept of “I will bless those who bless you, and curse those who curse you,” in relation to Israel, still holds true. Love your show. Thanks in advance.

  3. The testimony of one of your callers, Bianca, was moving. She had to cover her daughters eyes to prevent her from seeing two gay 13-yr-old boys kiss on television. Maybe it’s time to get rid of the TV set? If it’s in the house, it takes great discipline and deep discernment to control its use.

  4. Wait…. what? Dr. Brown isn’t one of the two witnesses? Totally bursted my bubble. I’m out.

    (teasing)

  5. Jon, turn it around: Ask them to cite the definitive studies that indicate that people are born gay, and ask them why, if that’s the case, the very liberal APA’s say there appear to be a number of factors, including both nature and nurture, that contribute to homosexual desires.

  6. Isn’t it time people began to think of the whole homosexual thing as being spiritual? I mean, there is a reason God is referred to as the Father of spirits, isn’t there? (Heb 12:9)

And isn’t Heb 12 right after Heb 11, which is all about faith?

So what’s wrong with people walking by faith, and thinking, instead of “I must have been born this way.”, they start thinking, “Maybe I haven’t been walking by faith, or walking faithfully toward God as I should have been in my past, and maybe now the Father of spirits, has let me have some well deserved trouble..or maybe somehow the Devil got a foothold in my life, because I made a few mistakes, and maybe now Satan is trying me for at least a very long ten days (or years or whatever) or something…and maybe it’s time for me to resist all kinds of crazy temptations that can happen in a fallen world, and time for me to realize that life is spiritual, and that I need to get real close to God, that I need to get serious about spiritual matters…and maybe now I better wake up and realized that this is my chance to live according to the word of God in a hostile environment..etc, and leave the things of the flesh behind for good, and let God do his healing work in my life, whether it takes days, months, or years.”?

  7. Sheila! Ha! I see what you did there with the play on words 😛 Adding 2,299,999,998 people to the amount! But I have the eyes of a fox and the ears of an eagle…. or maybe it’s the ears of a fox and the eyes of an eagle. Going to have to think on that one.

    😉

  8. Benjamin,

The truth will descend on your “razor sharp mind” and you’ll see I’ve not fabricated by “much” at all!

    🙂

  9. Do Torah observing Jews need Yeshua?
I asked this question to a friend regarding the Holocaust and whether the Jews who were murdered were saved without having known or outright deny Yeshua. The argument given was that if Yeshua is the living Torah, then observant Jews already have him. So how does this argument begins to fall apart?

  10. In other words for a jew, is observing torah and teshuva when he or she blows it,the same as a gentile or non observing jew need for a savior?

  11. Bernardo,

Joh 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God…
21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Do those that practice Judaism really believe and keep Torah? Or is their manmade religion one that subverts true humble obedience?

Mr 7:5 Then the Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why walk not thy disciples according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with unwashen hands?
6 He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition…
13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.

Has Judaism without Messiah gotten any better in the last 2000 years?

Mic 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

Walking humbly with YHWH requires our obedience to His word and acceptance of His Son as savior. Doing only one or the other is deception.

Re 14:12 Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

1Jo 2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Mt 7:21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

    Shalom

  12. Jonny,

That’s great! Like other families in the early ’80s, we got rid of our TV and went without it for ten years. It’s back in the house now. I watch the news and documentaries.
