Dr. Brown and Pastor Gino Geraci Discuss Myths and Facts About Bible Translations and Bible Interpretation

  1. I always assumed that God creates his word, unless he never had anything new to say, but the Word that John talks about as being with God, and that Word which created all things with God, was in fact with God and always existed with God.

I’ve often talked with some Christians who seemed so repulsed by the Trinity doctrine that they went another way, saying Jesus began in the womb of Mary, as if that’s all there is to it.

But no, he had been with God all the time. I believe they communed together.

  2. Sheila,

I think Dr. Brown only posts photo’s and things like that on BookFace*.

    I don’t have a BookFace* account =/

    (* FaceBook)

  3. Benjamin,

Oh, okay, that makes sense. I thought maybe he found something on the recording that I had missed.

  4. “The doctrine of Evolution is man’s dumbest invention!”

    > I never met a Bible believer who didn’t hate science. No such person could possible exist, it’s a requirement for belief. Evolution is neither a doctrine or an invention. It is a discovery and an explanation of that discovery. If you don’t believe me you can trot right down to the science department of ANY Christian college or university and they will tell you the exact same thing. While you are there you can demand they stop teaching evolution and replace that with creationism. But you won’t do that because you know those scientists will laugh at you. Just like the atheists do.

  5. Hi Mike, It’s always exciting for me when I hear you do your programs in the land. All I can do is imagine how wonderful it must be for those people who are on your tour. Being baptized in the Jordan River etc. I am indeed envious. On another subject, your friend Sid Roth, has on his website teaching people HOW to speak in tongues. Based on your comments to a listener regarding the application of tongues, have you discussed this subject with Sid? Give my regards to Pastor Wayne. He is a dear friend. And Shalom to you, Mike. Be well and happy landings. Ron

  6. Van, One does not need to hate science to believe the scripture.

Until science can explain how Jesus turned water into wine, it will have to take a back seat to scripture, for that is it’s proper place.

When people put science in it’s proper place, it doesn’t mean they hate it.

Van, do you hate the Bible?

  7. “Van, One does not need to hate science to believe the scripture.”

    > Absolutely false. Your religion forces you to say things that are untrue.

“Until science can explain how Jesus turned water into wine, it will have to take a back seat to scripture, for that is it’s proper place.”

    > Nothing like jumping the gun. First YOU believers would have to prove Jesus actually existed. Science doesn’t have to show how Dionysus turned water into wine either, Yikes!

When people put science in it’s proper place, it doesn’t mean they hate it.

    > Science will NEVER accept supernatural explanations for very good reasons. So as far as YOU Bible believers are concerned science will never be “in it’s proper place.”

“Van, do you hate the Bible?”

    > None of the stories in the Bible were made to be understood as history. Religions are all gross misinterpretations of mythology as history.

Van, In the beginning, what was first, science, or the Word?

    > What beginning? Matter and energy have always existed. There is no need to posit a creator for something that wasn’t created. The fact that you hate and don’t know anything about science makes you ask really silly questions. You are proof that Bible believers know nothing about science.

  8. “Until science can explain how Jesus turned water into wine, it will have to take a back seat to scripture, for that is it’s proper place.”

    > This kind of thinking would stop scientific progress and turn our nation into a backward third-world nation overnight. Oh wait a minute. Thanks to the Fascist Republicans we already ARE a backward third world nation.

  9. The name of the group that kidnapped those school girls is Boko Haram. Translated that means, Western education is sinful.” Exactly what you Bible believer preach and the reason you home school your children! You hate Western education as much as the Muslims, even more! People wonder if Muslims and Christians worship the same God. Christians and Muslims are the SAME people and what they hate about each other is what they hate about themselves.

  10. VaIn,

You have taken stupid “logic” to a whole new level and proven once again that you are the most religious and bigoted person that posts here.

  11. Science can prove a lot of things, so many things when you stop to think about it, but it can’t prove how the world began.

Significant proof that in the beginning God created the heaven and the earth, seems to me.

  12. Van, if lawyers in a court can prove everything about a crime scene, but can not prove if a man committed a crime, could we say that the man was proven to be innocent?

One think we know for certain. Science by itself did not create the heaven and the earth.

And if we want proof Jesus exists, all we have to do is those things he commanded, for it is then that we find out that those things are from God and that he came from God.

  13. Science has prof without certainty. Bible believers have certainty without any proof. I’ll take science and you stick with your insane superstitions.

  14. I believe we just saw some movement in the prophecy front this weekend and Michael Brown was there! He will have some insight I am sure.

  15. Van, Proof without certainty you say? Sounds like proof without proof to me.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

    Rom 10:9:10.

  16. Jon and Ray,
You are completely out of touch with reality and this comes from knowing absolutely nothing about science – the study of Nature. All supernatural explanations have been replaced by naturalistic explanations which is why you won’t accept modern science.

No amount of philosophical argumentation will cause there to be a God. Arguments are not evidence. In the end we are left with things we have evidence for and those we don’t. I cannot be argued into believng something. You can and have been. You are surely the ones to be pitied.

  17. “Van, if lawyers in a court can prove everything about a crime scene, but can not prove if a man committed a crime, could we say that the man was proven to be innocent?”

    > The evidence of the heavenly witnesses – the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost – would now be rejected in any court of justice.” – Edward Gibbon, (1737-1794), English historian. Author of “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire.”

You don’t have a shred of evidence to support your Christian superstitions. Your religion is built on a mountain of lies the most hideous being the lie that you are going to live forever in a magic cosmic happy land as long as you bow down to your paper idol, the Bible. You have made this book into an idol. Can you tell me which of the Ten Commandments that breaks?

  18. Vain you have convinced this board with every thing you are. You are out of touch and vain with your arrogance in what you think you know. You know .0000000000001 of something, but your arrogance is convincingly and overwhelmingly out of touch. If you pity me thank you for having a heart, however (vain one) I actually do pity you, and that heart comes from the love of God.

Pity is what I showed you, but Vain you sit here and respond back that you have a heart to pity us. Thank you..

  19. Van, I think it is important to draw your conclusions out. I have a question for you Dr. Van

When did Israel first exist? Was it 1948? since this state is built on a fairy tale (in Van’s opinion). Tell me what part of the Jewish history you believe.

Teach us Dr. Van more about this fairy tale that we so naively have fallen into. Thank you, doctor.

  20. The wise prefer to be with the Lord in heaven, along with the entire family of God, enjoying righteousness forever rather than to be eternally tormented in an everlasting burning hell where the Devil will be.

  21. “When did Israel first exist? Was it 1948? since this state is built on a fairy tale (in Van’s opinion). Tell me what part of the Jewish history you believe.

    > A great book on the subject is, Mythic Past, Biblical Archaeology and the Myth of Israel” by Thomas Thompson. In it the author shows that the kingdoms of Judah and Israel and their forty kings are mythical. Thompson also wrote another book called, The Messiah Myth, The Near Eastern Roots of Jesus and David” in which he proves that the Jesus of the gospels never existed. Of course you have been taught not to read this kind of literature and taunted with the threat that if you do you will burn in hell. Well there is no hell and you can easily find this out all by yourself. Or you could if you aren’t a coward anyway. So will you bite the hand that feeds you and get up off your knees? Or will you spend the rest of your life in intellectual servitude to false beliefs? The choice is yours. Freedom to think what you want or fear to do so.

  22. “The wise prefer to be with the Lord in heaven, along with the entire family of God, enjoying righteousness forever rather than to be eternally tormented in an everlasting burning hell where the Devil will be.”

    > The wise have never believed anything quite that stupid.

Van is a fundamentalist atheist and, as such, sees things in black-an-white terms.

But, frankly, you make the same “fundamental” assumption in you post.

There is no need to put either the bible or science “in the back seat” when they are addressing very different things.

    To use a silly analogy,

Do you first pick up your bible or your car repair manual when you change your oil? It’s silly to even think of “front seats” and “back seats” is such a case.

Well, it’s the same for bible and science. There is only a problem when once confuses the two.

And this is a thinking problem that both atheist fundamentalists and Christian fundamentalists have in common.

  24. >> It’s always exciting for me when I hear you do your programs in the land.

Does Dr. Brown normally broadcast from the air?

    Seriously,

Few things in the world have caused more suffering and grief than land-based religion.

You can claim it is biblical (in the OT it surely is) but who can deny that massive suffering it has caused and causes.

… and not just in Christianity. 911 was a result of land-based religion. Osama bin Laden wanted Christian troops out of what he saw as Muslim land.

  25. Greg, what should have the priority in a man’s life in your opinion, a car repair manual or a Bible?

  26. VaIn wrote:

Here is a link to a scholarly review of the book in question:

    http://www.h-net.org/reviews/showrev.php?id=3554

Better to read the review than the book, in my opinion.

Vain likes to read books that are nothing more than another injection of meth to keep him from dealing with reality. And he, of course, as always accuses us of believing an unfounded book. The pot calling the kettle black does not open his eyes from his self induced and drug induced coma long enough to know stainless steel when he sees it.

  27. Re Vans thread.

A great book on the subject is, Mythic Past, Biblical Archaeology and the Myth of Israel” by Thomas Thompson.

Dr. Van you have been discredited as a quack!

    >>> Until science can explain how Jesus turned water into wine, it will have to take a back seat to scripture, for that is it’s proper place.

    > Until the Bible believers explain why we have a much older story about Dionysus turning water into wine I don’t think we critics have to explain anything. Why did Jesus copy this miracle?

Van is a fundamentalist atheist and, as such, sees things in black-an-white terms.

    > That is the complete opposite of the truth! I see a huge gray area when it comes to most issues. For example, is abortion right or wrong? It’s probably wrong to terminate a fetus unless the woman’s life is in danger. But it’s wrong to force parenthood on people who don’t want it, can’t afford it or are not ready for it. This example proves that it is the Bible believers who can only see things in terms of black and white, good and evil and cannot recognize the huge gray areas at all. No one is more narrow-minded than a Bible believer. No one is more open-minded than an atheist.

But, frankly, you make the same “fundamental” assumption in you post.
There is no need to put either the bible or science “in the back seat” when they are addressing very different things.

    > The Bible should have this printed on the cover: “A Collection of Writings of Unknown Date and Authorship Rendered into English From Supposed Copies of Supposed Originals Unfortunately Lost.” The Bible is too violent a book for children. Anyone giving a Bible to a child should be treated as though they were giving pornography to a child and punished accordingly, say 30 years, no parole for the first offense. Imagine no religion in about ten years.

    To use a silly analogy,
Do you first pick up your bible or your car repair manual when you change your oil? It’s silly to even think of “front seats” and “back seats” is such a case.

    > A man could read the entire Bible and he still could not make a shoe or anything else and he would not learn one thing he didn’t already know.

Well, it’s the same for bible and science. There is only a problem when once confuses the two.
And this is a thinking problem that both atheist fundamentalists and Christian fundamentalists have in common.

    > There is no reason to interpret the mythological stories in the Bible as history. I know when you read something like the prologue in Luke that it SEEMS as though we should understand these stories as history. However I’ve read almost all the ancient Near Eastern literature there is and this prologue is not unlike what we find in other mythical stories.

    > ” In the cosmic economy, the divine must always sacrifice its life for the lower ranks of existence. In every religion a god is pictured as dying for man. There is not one iota of history as we know it in the entire Bible.” – Alvin Boyd Kuhn

    > “Considered as those of a human being, the character and teachings of the Christ in the Gospels are composed of contradictions and opposites impossible to harmonize. In fact, the many hundreds of sects and denominations of Christians who are today engaged in formulation the theology of their assumed founder and denying each other’s interpretation, do but inevitably represent the organic disunity from the beginning, and reflect the fragmentary nature of origins.” – Gerald Massey

    > “There are many things that are true which it is not useful for the vulgar crowd to know; and certain things which although they are false it is expedient for the people to believe otherwise.” – Augustine, talking about YOU.

“Shouldn’t a president be able to strike down the Roe v Wade decision by executive order?
I mean, isn’t that what the 3 branches of government is about? Isn’t that what it’s for?
Isn’t that why power was divided by the constitution? Isn’t it because if one branch makes a mistake, there can be a remedy?
I wait for the day we see our constitution used the way it was meant to be, in this situation.

    > Our Constitution IS being used the way it was meant to. You just don’t like the Constitution.
Abortions were not only legal when the Constitution was written, they were openly advertised. Our founders were well aware of this fact and if they had wanted to make abortions illegal they surely would have. You also are clueless about how our three branches of government function. Your Republican hoaxers convince you every election cycle that they can make abortions illegal and so you vote for these liars. Rights are not decided by majority rule or the states. If that were the case slavery would still be legal in the state I live in, where the majority is white Christian racists. So you’ve been convinced by your stupid and dishonest politicians that the majority gets to decide the gay marriage issue as well. That is an issue for the courts to decide and it has been decided. You lose. Freedom wins! It’s frightening that someone who knows so little about our government and our laws actually has the right to vote. Please, please stay home on election day.

  29. Re Van’s post below

Abortions were not only legal when the Constitution was written, they were openly advertised. Our founders were well aware of this fact and if they had wanted to make abortions illegal they surely would have. You also are clueless about how our three branches of government function.

Not to go off thread and take you on Van, but you are off the reservation on your post! But you said it your self above, you are clueless to the truth.

  30. A comment from Lala Land: “Dr. Van you have been discredited as a quack!”

    > I’d ask for an example of this but we both know you don’t have one. I caught YOU trying to hoax Fella. You are the one that got discredited and you KNOW it.

  31. “Not to go off thread and take you on Van, but you are off the reservation on your post! But you said it your self above, you are clueless to the truth.”

    > All I have to do is say the two words that will shut every Bible believer up every time: Prove it. ROFL!
