  1. Dr. Michael L. Brown,
First, if people want to base things on a superficial level, Zimmerman is not white.
Zimmerman is half-Peruvian, and not (strictly) white, so for anyone to say this is an example of white-on-black violence (or for blacks to be incited to hatred of whites) is wrong. That is first of all.

Second, people keep saying, “Had Trayvon Martin been white and Zimmerman had been black, these things would have gone differently”.
    Let’s talk about another scenario.
If it was black-on-black violence (if both Zimmerman and Martin were black), it would have represented the norm in black homicide (94% of black homicides are committed by blacks) and would never have made it to the news. This article is the source of the statistics: http://www.gopusa.com/commentary/2012/05/23/williams-should-black-people-tolerate-this/?subscriber=1

“Each year, roughly 7,000 blacks are murdered. Ninety-four percent of the time, the murderer is another black person. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, between 1976 and 2011, there were 279,384 black murder victims. Using the 94 percent figure means that 262,621 were murdered by other blacks. Though blacks are 13 percent of the nation’s population, they account for more than 50 percent of homicide victims. Nationally, black homicide victimization rate is six times that of whites, and in some cities, it’s 22 times that of whites. Coupled with being most of the nation’s homicide victims, blacks are most of the victims of violent personal crimes, such as assault and robbery.
The magnitude of this tragic mayhem can be viewed in another light. According to a Tuskegee Institute study, between the years 1882 and 1968, 3,446 blacks were lynched at the hands of whites. Black fatalities during the Korean War (3,075), Vietnam War (7,243) and all wars since 1980 (8,197) come to 18,515, a number that pales in comparison with black loss of life at home. It’s a tragic commentary to be able to say that young black males have a greater chance of reaching maturity on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan than on the streets of Philadelphia, Chicago, Detroit, Oakland, Newark and other cities.”

Third, the prosecutors did a bad job.
Murder 2 must involve malice. Zimmerman took a beating for 40+ seconds, crying out for help, without pulling his firearm. If he had wanted to shoot Mr. Martin, he would have pulled the gun right away. It was self-defense, because Trayvon Martin went for Zimmerman’s firearm. Zimmerman had not reached for it for almost an entire minute of being beaten. It was not his intention to, either. He was forced to defend himself. It was either Trayvon, who was reaching for the gun or Zimmerman.
As far as his following Mr. Martin, the neighborhood had had a lot of break-ins, so they were on the look-out for suspicious individuals. Trayvon was walking around late at night, while it was raining, wearing a hood. He was looking inside peoples houses and cars as he walked along. Those are not proofs that he was up to no good but they would appear suspicious to a man who is conducting a neighborhood crime-watch in an area that was on heightened alert.
The *non-emergency* operator testified (para.), “I do not give commands.”, so Zimmerman did NOT “disobey” anything. It was not a 911 operator.

This was not an example of white-on-black violence (as white had not come into the equation, since Zimmerman is not white), nor of a miscarriage of justice.

  2. I would like to see how the Sanhedrin would rule. I take the stand that there is a percentage of blame on both sides. Take race out of it and replace it with a a G_dly view. A worldly view will take and put color into- make it a mathematical equation and assign a percentage to the situation.

  3. jon,
It does seem strange that Zimmerman has taken a life, even if it was not with malicious intent, and will get off scott-free.
I do not know all of the ins and outs of these matters, but he definitely wasn’t guilty of Murder 2.

  4. Thanks Bill, I would like to know more about the history in biblical times of refuge cities. Zimmerman needs to be in one of these places of refuge where he can take stock of his life now, and where he can add a life for his future. If a life was lost was there still not some recourse for the life taken?

Interesting program where M.B. had on his show Lila Rose who was giving the statistics of how many abortions daily are done in our major cities. How many Travon Martins were aborted during this trial?

I guess the media decides what the country talks about, and later protests. How many Travon Martins were shot in Chicago in black on black crime in the last week?

  5. How would Trayvon have acted if Zimmerman would have been black? We know what Trayvon called Zimmerman a creepy looking “C-Word”. Now, imagine if Zimmerman had described Trayvon with a racial epithet? So lets not forget the knowable mindset of Trayvon that evening. The physical evidence is that he had marks on his hand consistent with hitting something and Zimmermans head had marks consistent with it being hit against something hard on the back.

Now, let us not forget the technical excuses that those jumping up and down were using to excuse OJ Simpson being found Not Guilty of double homicide. An odd turn of events wouldnt you say.

Now isnt it a tad unfair that some use single cases to measure how far our nation has come. Now imagine if we(non african americans) applied that standard. The overwhelming number of cross racial crimes are committed by African Americans on Non African Americans(FBI Uniform Crime Reports AND separately the Justice Dept Statistics). And take a gander at the John White Long Island shooting in 2010. How many riots or threats to riot did you hear about with that. And the convicted was pardoned by Governour Patterson.

  6. Sometimes I think the differences between some communities are too great to bridge with talk. Does anyone say the Hasidim or the Amish are wrong to live separate lives?

And what is the Hispanic perspective on all of this. For some reason “minority” is being used to include everyone but people of no colour. Zimmerman, the accused, is as much Hispanic as Obama is African American.

Im glad this case is being discussed with the Bible part of the discussion because as forgiveness is expected so should a bit of humility.

  7. Dr Brown,
How do we view your new TV show if we can’t
view it at the scheduled time? I have Comcast
and can view it only on line. So far, I can’t seem
To view it on NRB unless it is “now playing” and I
have missed it. I would love to see it and
    Share this with friends.
    Thank you,
    Deb

  8. There is only Justice in G_d’s system

There is only peace through Yeshua.

No justice, no peace, is not a biblical principal.

Forget about race, and do not be baited by this temptation. We need to be under the system of G_d, and no other.

  9. wow… take race out of it.

Is it ok to follow and stalk a kid? And then when an altercation happens… its the kids fault.

This is idiotic. The line of “its not illegal to follwo someone” is not true. Let a person follow/stalk u… call the cops & I promise they will not say “Oh, he is followign u, even after u run…its ok. thats with in his rights”

Take race out of it. I wonder why Zimmerman thought he was criminal…cuz he had a hood on (even though it is raining), he was looking around while walking (but it was adark rainy night, maybe looking for addresses)…So he thinks all 17 yr olds with a hood on are F-ing Punks etc… I wonder why he said this and thought all this. I just cant be race…

God will have final say. But while on earth, jus know, “its ok to stalk someone, get in a fight due to you following, and because u lose the fight… u can shoot them

  10. one last thing… Yes 2nd degree murder was s stretch.. .but manslaughter was an option too….so resting your opinion on “it was murder 2” is not 100% correct, because Manslaughter was an option too

  11. Ty, respectfully – if the leadership of the black community would take a page out of the Jewish book they would get much more done. If you take every case you can a make a martyr out of each case it wears the same clothes.

What a country that we live in that the majority wanted him convicted, the president, the attorney general all wanted and convicted zimmerman- despite the odds against him the system did not follow lock step with the powers that be. That should encourage all of us that no matter what is against us the system can hold the tyrany in check.

zimmerman will have to answer to a higher being, just not to the over zealous crowds that convicted him before the trial- no that is what makes our system worth fighting for.

  12. three last things TY- i did not say it was ok, quite contrary to that- i said that in a more biblical way there would in fact be a price for zimmerman to pay.
The second point is that a careful understanding of the facts it is nearly impoosible to convict given the law. third point-

and most important abortions in the black community take thousands, possibly millions of Travon’s out of this world- where is your response to that?

  13. Bill,

A couple of points: First you say “Zimmerman is half-Peruvian, and not (strictly) white, so for anyone to say this is an example of white-on-black violence (or for blacks to be incited to hatred of whites) is wrong.”

Actually, you have confused ethnicity and race. When you look at Zimmerman, he “is” white. That is race, just as black refers to color/race. Zimmerman’s ethnic background may be half-Peruvian, and Travon’s ethnic background would be African-American, but let’s not get this confused, it was a white man who killed a black kid.

I have not deemed him guily or innocent, because I was not there, nor did I allow the social engineering influence of the media work to polarize my spirit against anyone else. Mr. Zimmerman was found not guilty because there was reasonable doubt, however, this ruling does not mean that he was not guilty of murder in the sight of G-d. We must not let this ruling be considered victory or defeat for any of us, as a youth is still dead over this matter.

  14. Jon,

It has been well noted concerning the black on black crime and the high rate of abortions in the black community. However, maybe Dr. Brown should have a serious discussion on the high suicide rate in America, especially in the white community. The white race has the highest percentage of suicide rate among any other, besides the Native American. Where is your response to that?

  15. Brian, my response to the high sucide rate is that this program was on the verdict on the zimmerman trial. i do not know of another high profile case right now that America is talking about. We could be talking about anything on the radio program like the Dodgers, or middle east politics- however, we are talking about a high profile case in Florida. That is my response to your out of the blue topic.

  16. Brian, is our president white or black, i am confused. When i look at Oboma i see a white president.

  17. Jon,

Actually it was you that took Ty’s response off topic. He communicated about the Zimmerman case, and it was you who asked him about abortion, something that he never addressed. Hence, your response should have been considered when you brought that up to him.

You are confused as to whether the President is black or white…hmmm… okay, if in your eyes you see a white man, then that is well and good. I see a black man in regards to race. The same one that would have been a slave if he were in the pre-civil war days, and the same one who would not have been admitted into a “white’s only” hotel during Segregation.

  18. Jon,

“… the majority wanted him convicted.”

I disagree with this. I think majority did not care because it was not their community. And race is still a big issue, so I think more ppl did not care than cared.

To get a charge of 2nd degree murder,,, yes the facts are hard to prove… but manslaughter, all the facts were there.
Self defense is to respond with equal or lesser force, typically. Ex. U can not throw a rock at me and I can not respond by shooting you.
Hard to prove your life is threating with minor wounds.

The abortion topic.. my response to that.. Abortion is a horrible thing. But I do not compare that to this… 2 compelte different things. People can debate justly or unjustly…”when life starts”… There is no question… Trayvon was alive.

  19. an example of popular beleif of fact is found in the 1st post

“It was self-defense, because Trayvon Martin went for Zimmerman’s firearm.

This guy does not know how long the beated took place.
Or if it was an equal fight till that pt.

Then notice the “walking around late at night, wearing a hood, He was lookin inside ppls cars.”

..For real.. its raining and he has a hood…thats suspicious? He was jus walking around…video shows he went to a store to buy candy. But u know he was lingering around the neighborhood.

All of these arent facts, these are the words of the man on trial. Funny ppl take his word as fact, but ignore everything presented on the other side. But race didnt play a factor…

My pt being… not a majority wanted a conviction. For some reason ppl beleive “EVERYTHING” the Defense says.. why?
U probably beleive a 29yr old 205 pound really would be scared and over powered by a 155 pd 17 yr old….Only view the evidence you want.

  20. Ty,
Mr. Martin had pictures of himself smoking weed and holding firearms. He had text messages talking about fights he had been in. This indicates what sort of character Trayvon Martin had – that of a violent law-breaker.

Being that Trayvon Martin was a violent person, it is not hard to believe he instigated the fight with Zimmerman.

None of these facts detract from the tragedy of the matter – however, we must be careful not to let the tragedy of the matter detract from the facts either.

Now, everything you’ve stated so far indicates you do not know the facts of the case, and are not interested in them – so this will be my last post as it makes no sense arguing facts with someone who is dead-set on following emotions.

    Wish you the best.

  21. Ty,
You can make whatever you want of his pictures of himself showing his middle finger to the camera, his smoking weed, his displaying firearms, and his text-messages about fights he had been in – I come to the obvious conclusion that this young man was troubled and violent.

  22. I am upset at the comment by Dr Brown that alludes to the high murder rate in the inner city, because most blacks are outraged by these heinous crimes as well , and the judicial systems doesn’t have any problem with locking up the culprits and throwing away the key, and so that line of reasoning has no place in this discussion. I overcame the ghetto through the light of Christ, without him I would be in prison or dead. Many of you on this site have no idea what obstacles must be overcome in order to get to the status you achieved just by being born, and I’m not ignoring personal responsibility, but just cautioning you to tread lightly in this area

  23. the contrast in views that bill has vs. ty is apparent in the views of black and white. Bill sees travon as a hoodie smoking thug/ ty sees him as a skittle eating kid. this contrast is the issue. we need to see the all of us the child of God travon is and was- we need to see also that life is actually short- and to be in a hoodie smoking teen is dangerous/ you can lose your life in an instant. the point- this was a preventable tragedy and yes, young people lose their lives in tragic car accidents and drownings ect- however why are we all taking sides to contrast ourselves apart from each other- is that the Godly way to view things????

  24. Yes its a stark contrast. Yes he smoked weed…how many ppl have experimented in high school? Has he been arrested for distrubution, arrested for assualt, a juveinile record with law…the answer is no!

Even Dr. Brown experiment with drugs as a youth…does that make him a thug, trouble maker back then?

Trayvon member if a local church, honor roll, but u focus on a teenager experimenting with drugs.

The fights..do u know the context of them? A couple fights with Peers does not quailfy someone as a violent criminal. A police record makes u a criminal.

How many thug, hoodlums u know on honor toll planning on going to college. He was suspended for being tardy..what a thug.

I jus pray the kids of your racial background do not have to fear being labeled a threat, jus for not walkin home as fast as someone else thinks they should

  25. Ty’s view below

not a majority wanted a conviction. For some reason ppl beleive “EVERYTHING” the Defense says.. why?

Ty i am not taking either view – i think M.B. and many of his listeners are taking a larger view of the case- as was heard on the program. This is not conservative talk radio, nor is it Al Sharpton’s view . Both sides need to take a Godly view of this- i did not hear on this radio program anyone taking just the defense side. To cap off Ty- your views are interesting i have enjoyed the post by both bill and you. thank you, God bless. (also brian))

  26. Bill as far as the facts of the case, pls do not attempt to put yourself on a higher platform. I viewed just as much evidence as you have and probably talk law school graduates on a more frequent basis than majority of ppl. (Wife & best friend are attorneys)

Just so you know, theres a reason all the evidence you mentioned was not allowed in the case. Zimmerman did not know all that before he stalked him. Just because a person smokes weed or has been in a fight, does not mean they a criminal.

I have stated murder 2 was s stretch, far fetch…but to paint this kid as a young punk, criminal is wrong and unfounded.

  27. Jon

I am not saying u wanted him convicted or not…but in your post you stated “most wanted him convicted”

As far as takin the defense side…read all the post on here…everything is from the defense view & pro defense. The first post states that zimmeran was beat as if he knows zimm did not fight back. That is what i was referring too.

To others not directed at Jon

I have not mentioned race or slandered zimm character…but read the other post and tell me if it sounds like Trayvon is on trial.

This is my last post on the topic. I jus wonder if it was a youth of different race with a church influence, honor roll GPA, suspended for tardiness, zero criminal record, weed in system (not crack, meth, or extreme drugs), would he be labeled as a hoodlum. Slander his character all u want, but know he was a child of God that is jus guilty of being kid & walking to the store.

    God Bless
& i pray your community does not have open season on your youth!

    Ty

  28. Many of you seem to ignore Mr. Zimmermans ungodly characterization of a young man he didn’t know, and then attribute to him the noblest of motives in everything else that follows. Let me get this straight, he started off doing everything wrong, but he concluded with doing everything right, this perspective is illogical, and unbiblical. Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. Many of you underestimate the deceitfulness of the human heart. This man has shown zero remorse for what he did, and the truth of the matter is if he did not have the firearm he would have never followed him in the first place. I believe the only way he sustained those injuries is because he never attempted to remove Trayvon physically, but was trying to get the gun during the duration of the altercation. I am a grown man, and I guarantee you I can’t slam my wifes head into the concrete over a dozen times, this guys story is ridiculous and you know it.

  29. Ty,
    “Suspension”
    From the Miami Herald:
“In October, a school police investigator said he saw Trayvon on the school surveillance camera in an unauthorized area ‘hiding and being suspicious.’ Then he said he saw Trayvon mark up a door with ‘W.T.F.’
The officer said he found Trayvon the next day and went through his book bag in search of the graffiti marker.
Instead the officer reported he found women’s jewelry and a screwdriver that he described as a ‘burglary tool,’ according to a Miami-Dade Schools Police report obtained by The Miami Herald. Word of the incident came as the family’s lawyer acknowledged that the boy was suspended in February for getting caught with an empty bag with traces of marijuana…
Trayvon’s backpack contained 12 pieces of jewelry, in addition to a watch and a large flathead screwdriver, according to the report, which described silver wedding bands and earrings with diamonds.”

    “Grades”
First, character is not decided by grades.
Second, we don’t even know that Trayvon was on the honor roll.
    From MSN News: http://news.msn.com/rumors/rumor-trayvon-martin-was-an-honors-student
“Then there are the things that are harder to confirm. Like Martin’s grades. Though presumably it shouldn’t matter what kind of student the 17-year-old was before he was shot and killed, the unfortunate reality is that it does. At least to some people. As a result, and as the Inquisitr reports, there’s now a Twitter meme claiming that Martin was an honors student with a 3.7 GPA.
It’s impossible to confirm this — MSN News just tried — because MARTIN’S SCHOOL RECORDS HAVE NOT BEEN RELEASED. All we have to go on is a quote from one of Martin’s teachers recorded by the Orlando Sentinel that he was an “A and B” student.”

Mr. Martin’s school records have not been released (or had not been 11 days ago, at the time the article had been written), so we do not *really* know that he was on the honor roll.
Again, even if he was, it does nothing to prove character in the face of all the other evidence.

The situation has been used/abused to try to stir up racial tension and division – unwarrantedly.
People pretend this is white-on-black violence or that Mr. Martin was profiled for being black. They are ignoring the evidence – and they do not consider the fact that if it had been black-on-black crime, you and I wouldn’t be having this conversation right now.
Example: today, almost 19 blacks were killed by other blacks; you and I have not seen the headlines and we never will.

Here are the Martin cellular phone text messages for those who want to read them.
    http://www.gzdocs.com/documents/0513/discovery_3/extraction_reports/report1.pdf

“The one who states his case first seems right, until the other comes and examines him.” Proverbs 18:17

  30. The text messages show that his mother wanted him to move out of the house – to his father’s – because he kept getting in trouble.

  31. I think Ty the point you are making is that nobody wants someone else who is packing a lethal weapon following them- you are just asking for trouble.. Zimm the bigger guy made an offensive move, then played the defensive card. Zimms beating was done and that should have been his lesson. Instead, one is dead.

  32. Bill, if it would have been black on black crime the murderer would have been arrested. What part of that don’t you understand. You miss the point that this country has a history of devaluing the black life, and as a result the hatred and oppression experienced by blacks, being relegated to ghettos and the outer courts of american society has greatly skewed many african americans perspective of life. The problem I have with white america is they fail to realize that their hatred or indifference has created the Trayvon Martins of this nation. Many white americans ask the questions “where do these people come from?” The answer is simple. They come form the slums you sentenced them to.

  33. Ty,
“His being on the honor roll could do nothing whatsoever to prove his character”
    Let me correct myself.
It couldn’t prove anything, *unless* it also takes good conduct to be on the honor roll in his school. In that case, obviously, it could and should be taken into consideration.

  34. Just listened to the radio program for July 16th that covers all the comments on this board.
Blind spots – listen to the program and think about how we all have commented. good program. thanks

  35. Hey Ty,

Did you see the post above and check out the link? It is so easy to judge wrongly when we are not made aware of important facts.

    Shalom

  36. Hey Bo,

I said I wouldnt post on this topic anymore, but I respect your opinion and view, and do not feel conversing with you is pt less and is angle of just arguing to argue.

Yes I viewed it. About 90% of the eveidence on there I have seen and heard of.

Its improtant to realize that “Self Defense” is typically to respond with “equal or lesser force”… minor injuries (not my opinon… the results from medical examiners mentioned in the trial), its not ok to use deadly force.

The exception is “if u feel you life is threatened. This is the vague part. I dont feel he thought he was gonna die do to punchs resulting in minor injuries.

With that said.. I do not feel I have judge wrong. I feel.. it was hard to prove “2nd degree murder”. When u base a case around 2nd degree and throw mansluaghter at the end as a charge, confuses jurors. Yes I feel it was manslaughter.

2nd. Due to rape victims filng suit aganist a person.. and the defense using a her sexual history to disapprove an assualt took place… is why the process of “the victim is not on trial” has been implemented.
I mention this to state, just because he sampled with drugs in high school, texted about a gun, etc.. is not really relveant to the case. Its an attempt to bash a person character. If ppl want to paint him as a criminal…the question is.. does he have a crimnal record? An assualt, a bulgary, anything?

One last thing, the site showed that a guy saw him on top… but two otehr witness mentioned somthing else. Shouldnt that mean,,, no body is sure. Why only take that one persons stance as fact?
MMA style moves… the guy that said that,,, recanted and did not state it under oath…so should we still realy on that? Who had MMA training 3 days a week?

To be honest…none of this character bashing issues should come into play during the trial and they did not. And it is a reason why it did not. So my view is Manlsaughter yes…2nd degree.. i undertand why he wasnt found guilty.

    * Pls notice I didnt menion race. Yes I feel he was profield due to race, but the context of my opinion is not based on this.

  37. Ty,

Just thought you would like to see it. I am sorry for the young man and his family. I am also sorry for Zimmerman who will have to live with his actions for the rest of his life and maybe have something to pay in the next life. I would love to live in a perfect world…but that will have to wait until the “new heavens and new earth wherein dwelleth righteousness.” I think things would be better if we instituted Biblical justice and judgment rather than our flawed system.

The things I got from the link above were that the media portrayed Martin as a young child and not 6 foot tall with somewhat of a build. And it portrayed Zimmerman as a heavy set/big man. Also the lie detector test showed that Zimmerman was basically telling the truth. I agree that character assassination does not help the truth come out.

I wasn’t posting to argue. Just thought you and others would like to know a little more. The whole thing is sad. If his parents would have stayed together and addressed his issues at a young age, it may have never happened.

Did you see the movie “Courageous”? It is about men taking up their responsibility of man as a father. I weep every time I see it. You might like it better than the last link I posted.

    http://www.courageousthemovie.com/themovie

    Shalom

  38. I’ve been in security for 30 years, I’m also a black man. I heard Zimmerman on the police call say that these coons always get away. He was then told that he shouldn’t follow the person.

However the fight occured, why would you pull out a gun and kill someone whose beating you up due to you being bad enough to follow but not bad enough to keepyourself fit and strong enough even though you work in security.

I ws beaten up when I was 16, I didn’t need to get a weapon and kill the person. What he did was what we would call unlawful force.
