Recent Books on the Bible and Homosexuality

[Download MP3]

Dr. Brown reviews Justin Lee’s book Torn (Justin is the founder of the Gay Christian Network) and then discusses the new “Queen James Bible,” which rewrites references to homosexual practice in the Scriptures. Listen live here 2-4 pm EST, and call into the show at (866) 348 7884 with your questions and comments.

Hour 1:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: God reaches out with love to all humanity. Jesus shed the same blood for heterosexual and homosexual alike and He calls us all to holiness. You can not be a practicing homosexual and a disciple of Jesus at the same time!

Hour 2:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: Let us walk in true love, the love that doesn’t compromise, the love that doesn’t seek to be popular, the love that tells the truth and then helps people walk out the truth regardless of cost or consequence.

  1. No, Dr Brown, surely the “Bible for every social subgroup” fashion has not reached this far?

    Gansta bible?

    X-factor bible?

    Action Man bible?

As my Canadian auntie would say, “It’s a sign of the End Times!” (Mind you, when she stubs her toe on a chair leg it’s a sign of the End Times.)

I’m going back to the Annual Xmas Debate for some seasonal cheer. Hello Bo!

  2. Oh, the deception this book (TQJB) will create — so sad that some will read in it a go-ahead, and a license for perversion…the souls it will lead astray…..we knew it would eventually happen, but what a dark blot on our history…

  3. Mr Brown, My sister doesn’t think homosexuality is wrong, however she isn’t a lesbian. But still, my mum and I have pointed out that scripture condemns it. Is there anyway to convince my sister that homosexuality is wrong, or as you and the scripture put it, to’evah? I am glad you are taking a stand against it Mr Brown.

  4. Dr. Brown –
Thanks for your work – reading some of your books – excellent.

Towards the end of your program – I got confused. (Listening by archive today – Jan. 24, 2013

sounds like Justin Lee thinks that one can have same sex attractions and be God-given and that is ok and not act on them – does he agree that homosexual practice is wrong? What about homosexual fantasy / lust? even heterosexual lust is sin – Matthew 5:28

I am a little confused; I thought Justin was arguing for being gay is God given; and that a person can be “gay” and Christian .

Does he think society should redefine marriage?
that one can be gay and Christian and monogamous ?

  5. Thanks Dr. Brown,
That was more clear than your radio show. To be honest – I could not figure out what his main point is, until you wrote that sentence above. But maybe I didn’t listen carefully enough. Forgive me if I didn’t notice it.

there seems to be a lot of modern young people “coming out” and announcing that they are “gay” in the past 20 or so years.

Are some of them just confused mentally and emotionally and doing something is “trendy”; cool for their generation, “brave” ??

There also seems to be a lot of men who were married and have children and then get divorced and announce that they are gay, etc. – like Gene Robinson and Roy Clements (former Evangelical who wrote an excellent book on Galatians, from what others have said), and former NJ governor (Jim McGreevey), etc.

Are they just wanting to be free from the hard work of relating to a woman and the crucifixion of selfishness in “love your wife as Christ loved the Church”? (That is what is seems like to me – they can have all the pleasure and sex they want now without the obligations and struggles and hard work of loving their wives.)

What are the Biblical options of understanding “same sex attraction” ? (like the argument that Justin Lee is making, that it is inborn and God-given; and yet they agree that the “gay lifestyle” of many partners is wrong.)

    1. Part of the fall of mankind (Gen. 3; Romans 8:20-21 ff)
    2. Mental and Emotional disorder ?
    3. Childhood trauma ?
    4. Satanic possession ? (like the people who want their legs and hands cut off – in your book – that seems like direct Satanic possession to me)
    5. What other explanation?

What do you think of Rachel Held Evans blog articles devoted to Justin Lee’s book?

(she also did an earlier one on chapters 1-4)

Sorry my comment is so long. You are one of the few Evangelicals that actually is dealing with the harder issues of this subject in the right way without compromise but with clear compassion. Many preachers/teachers today are afraid to even touch on the issue anymore.

And many who do go about it in the wrong way. I appreciate the way you talk about it and your tone is godly.

  6. Thanks for the kind words, Ken, and I appreciate your interest and burden in this area. Re: Rachel Held Evans, sadly, she has bought into a lot of the “soft” theology that’s out there today, including on homosexual issues. May the Lord bring her into the fullness of His truth and grace!

  7. [Thanks, Dr. Brown. Speaking of same-sexers, here’s what I encountered on the web.]

BSA Prez’s Faith Promotes Porn !

    by Aaronita Smith

Yes, the religion of BSA Pres. Wayne Perry (who’s been behind gay Boy Scouts) actually promotes illustrated MALE porn!
Scholars, including Mormon ones, know of a hard-core porn sketch in the Mormon-approved “Book of Abraham.”
This Book is part of the “Pearl of Great Price” which, along with the “Book of Mormon,” is LDS-authorized scripture.
Figure 7 in Facsimile 2 in “Abraham” shows two beings facing each other. Joseph Smith described them as the “Holy Ghost” and “God” (the Father), the latter showing an erect male sex organ.
Mormons were offended when Smith’s newspaper published this sketch in 1842, so the phallic part was whited out for a century until the “restored” LDS church restored the X-rated drawing in 1981!
LDS scholars have hushed up the fact that the “Book of Abraham” is not about the biblical Abraham but actually portrays ancient Egyptian documents showing occult obscene sketches.
Those scholars also know that Smith fraudulently altered them so that he could (blasphemously) portray the Christian trinity as sex fiends in order to promote polygamy among his followers!
For more info see “Book of Abraham” (Wikipedia). And check out the Tanners’ “Mormonism – Shadow or Reality?” which reproduces the original Egyptian sketches Smith plagiarized and exploited. Also Yahoo or Google “Facts From Mormons (By a Utah Resident),” “God to Same-Sexers: Hurry Up,” “The Background Obama Can’t Cover Up,” and “USA – from Puritans to Impure-itans.”
