Is Polygamy Worse than Same-Sex “Marriage”?; and What’s So Bad about Polygamy?

[Download MP3]

Just how much truth is there to a “slippery slope” argument? Is polygamy better or worse than same-sex marriage? Don’t miss today’s show!

Hour 1:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: We need to wake up here in America. We need to come to our spiritual senses. We’re further down the slippery slope than we realize, and if we don’t have the wisdom and the will to resist the radical gay redefinition of marriage, we will certainly not be able to resist the movement towards polygamy.

Hour 2:

Dr. Brown’s Bottom Line: The scriptures lay out God’s ideal. Let’s not make excuses, but live up to His standard. Let’s seek to understand and explore the beauty of marriage as He ordained it, and show the world the image of Jesus and His bride.

Is Polygamy Worse Than Same-Sex Marriage? Townhall Article by Dr. Brown

Fundamentalist Mormon Joe Darger, along with two of his three wives, recently appeared on O’Reilly to discuss their new book, “Love Times Three: Our True Story of a Polygamous Marriage.”

O’Reilly began the segment by pointing out that opponents of same-sex marriage have always argued that if marriage was redefined to include same-sex unions, other groups would want the same treatment. […]

Love the Two or More You’re With?

VOR Article by Marcus French

In the ongoing cultural debate over gay marriage, those that oppose it will at times attempt to show that the arguments used in favor of same-sex marriage can just as easily be applied to polygamy, thus opening the door for its legalization if gay marriage is legalized. In response, the pro-gay-marriage crowd usually responds mockingly, with phrases like “we graduated from the second grade,” or “this is a straw man you’ve set up, polygamy has nothing to do with gay marriage.” […]

Are Evangelicals Obsessed with Homosexuality? VOR Article by Dr. Brown

Writing in the On Faith blog for the Washington Post, Orthodox rabbi Shmuley Boteach claimed that evangelical Christians have “utterly marginalized themselves with their obsession over homosexuality.” Is this true? 1. I was wondering when this would hit the headlines. Only fair to for this to go legal in this present evil age. Scripture has to be fulfilled anyway where people “will wax worst” before the Son of Man comes around.

Now I’m waiting on all those pet lovers who want to marry. 😛

  2. As christians we are called to be in the world and yet and always not of it. The slippery slope began in the USA when technology began to be used for immoral entertainments. I doubt we would have strip clubs without Plaboy and Penthouse having such wide acceptance in society. As christians we ought to know that the end will come when the days become as the days of Noah.

1973 – Abortion made “legal” (improperly by the court) in response to widespread demand (can you say widespread illegitimacy?)
2003 – The Supreme Court rules in favor of homosexual rights (Lawrence v. Texas)

  3. Dear Dr. Brown,

I have purchased your book “A queer thing…” and I am astonished at what I’m reading. The level of outright stupidity in the reasoning of groups like LGBTQ is just beyond anything I’ve ever imagned. Here in Holland gay marriages have been legal for quite some time and as bad as that is, there has never ever been a thing close to “liberation of gender” here. You ARE either a boy or a girl. People have always been either of the two, from the beginning of human history. To take that away is absolutely devastating to society, especially when you are teaching this to kids.

Groups like GLBT will claim that things like `heterosexism` is bad and to promote heterosexual relations as superior to homosexual relations is bigoted and should be banned. YET these are the same people that endorse books like `two mommies-daddies are better than one`, which actually promotes gay couples (two moms / two dads)superior to hetero couples (one mom and one dad), hence how on earth do these people get to say that others are bigots or hateful while they get to say homosexual relations are superior to heterosexual couples without being guilty of bigotry and intolerance. Also, if they think two momies or to dadies are better than one mom and one dad, what about two mommies AND a dad. Or three mommies AND a dad. Isnt that better than just two dads or two moms.

JUST INSANE! I drive my wife crazy with your book as I continually interrupt her with the reading of her own book to tell her what I´m reading in your book. The problem here is of course that on almost every page there are at least 3 or more things that leave me floored and I feel I have to share with my wife.

May God bless you for your work.

  4. Hi Dr. Brown,

I would like to take this opportunity to disagree with you on the reading of Deuteronomy 22:28-29. If you look at the context of verse 22-30 the rule is about consensual sex with the exception to the rule being 28-29. Verse 22 speaks of consensual sex between a man and a married woman. Verse 23-24 speaks of consensual sex between a man and a betrothed woman. Then the pattern breaks. The Hebrew then says that the woman is overpowered (hechezeq-bah) and that she called out (v.29) but no-one could save her. Then the story goes back to consensual sex as the woman is not overpowered nor did she cried for help. The man simply takes her and lays with her. In that regard the man must pay the brides price because he defiled her and thus disgraced her. This is also on par with Exodus 22:15 that if a man entices a virgin he has to pay the brides price. And the father can even refuse for him to have her.

So I would take issue with the interpretation that Deuteronomy 28-29 teach rape at all, and that a rape victim is to live with her rapist without the family being able to do anything about it.

    God bless,
    Nakdimon

  5. I think there are some sins that are worse than others even though all sin is bad and God will not allow sin in his temple in heaven for Jesus has the complete rule of it there.

  6. Here’s a problem with gay marriage I never see or hear discussed. What’s to stop two straight guys or women from getting married in order to receive the benefits of marriage? Other than that I have no problem with it.

  7. What does the Bible say about polygamy. And does Deut. 17:17 only speak to the Kings or to all of Israel, or all of Israel?
